23-07-2004 Degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, with thesis entitled: "Molecular mechanisms involved in regulation of iron in neuronal and glial cells during oxygen and glucose deprivation."

 

September 2007 winner of a scholarship to the National Congress Italian Society of Neuroscience (SINS, September 27-30, Verona).

 

15-02-2008 PhD Degree in Neuroscience, with a thesis entitled "Role of AKAP-121 in the control of mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and in the regulation of mitochondrial Sodium - Calcium exchanger.

 

July 2008 winner of a scholarship to the Congress Forum of European Neuroscience (FENS, 12-16 July, Geneva).

 

March 2008-January 2009 winner of grant of "Research Training" in implementation of integrated Voucher Program and Scholarships for Higher Education at the Department of Pharmacobiological Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro, with the project entitled "Expression of Nexin-1 in differentiation of glioblastoma and neuroblastoma cells "

 

From February 2009 to December 2009 bursary at the Department of Pharmacobiological Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro. 

 

February 2010-November 2010 winner of research grant at the Department of Pharmaco-Biology, Faculty of Pharmacy and Nutritional Sciences, University of Calabria, with a project entitled "Development of experimental models of glaucoma for studying in vitro and in vivo neuroprotective drugs" .

 

RESEARCH INTEREST

 

 

  • Study the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases in vitro models of primary neuronal cultures.
  • Study the role of proteins involved ionic homeostasis and control of mitochondrial functions in the course of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. ischemia).
  • Study of cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal death on in vitro models of neurodegeneration (e.g glaucoma).

Since November 2010: Assistant Professor (BIO/14, Pharmacology) at the University of Calabria, Faculty of Pharmacy and Nutritional Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences
